We shall remember them – and especially in this year which heralds the centenary of the Armistice to end WW1. Look out for the special Remembrance display in the window of DVeitch gallery in Abbotsbury.

On Sunday 11th November the Armistice Wreath Laying will take place at the War Memorial, St. Nicholas Church Abbotsbury at 10.15am. The Service of Remembrance will be in St. Peters Church, Portesham at 10.50am.

The Chesil Bank commemorates Armistice 100 with a special remembrance weekend in Portesham Village Hall. On November 10th there is a Remembrance Day Village Café 10-12 noon and on the Sunday 11th November, an afternoon of events starting with lunch followed by the film War Horse, a sing a long with poetry and tea.

Also on Saturday 10th November, the Beachcombers are hosting their annual bonfire, fireworks and barbeque at the Swan Inn and village car park in Abbotsbury from 6pm.

On the Saturday 17th November there is a village café organized as a fundraiser by Chesil Bank Preschool featuring crafts, new to you and refreshments 10-1pm in Strangways village hall, Abbotsbury.

Sunday 18th November offers the Artsreach performance Ranjana Ghatak & Band featuring Indian classical music – Portesham Village Hall 7.30pm.

A major event, taking place on St. Catherine’s Day 25th November, is Candles on the Hill where we shall light the pathway up to St. Catherine’s Chapel in Abbotsbury and create a circle of light with candle bags to represent the St. Catherine’s Wheel. Candle bags to decorate can be purchased from local retailers or alternatively you can pop along to Abbotsbury village hall on the day, 11am-2.30pm, to buy and decorate the bags ready to place in the circle of light. The event will commence with a short service in St. Catherine’s Chapel on Chapel Hill at 3pm. Please come and join us for what promises to be a very special occasion.

For those of you thinking ahead to Christmas, there will be a Christmas Fayre with crafts and gifts on Saturday 1st December from 10.30am at the Swan Inn, Abbotsbury. Why not pop along for that very special unique gift.
